Samar Kaukab, Arete

Samar KaukabSamar Kaukab is Executive Director for Arete, a research accelerator that launches and systematically supports complex research initiatives at UChicago. In her role, Samar manages a multi-unit team that works in partnership with faculty and University leadership to develop strategies for complex research, funding, and collaboration. Samar also manages Arete’s Big Ideas Generator (BIG)—a platform to systematically identify, fund, and support the long-term growth of early-stage, breakthrough ideas in basic research. Previously, Samar held the position of Associate Director of Strategic Foundation Initiatives in the University’s Office of Foundation and Corporate Relations.

Prior to joining the University, Samar served as the Executive Director of the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, Ohio’s statewide anti-sexual violence coalition and as a Development Officer at the Interfaith Youth Core in Chicago. Ahmad received her J.D. from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and completed her undergraduate studies in Economics and Political Science at the Ohio State University. Ahmad also studied at Oxford University, focusing on the intersections of law, economics, and philosophy.
