Hanna Liebman Dershowitz is the Director of Legal Affairs and Policy Development for the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. Dershowitz is an attorney, and her public policy background includes serving as Criminal Justice and Drug Policy Reform Advocate at the ACLU of Southern California; directing public policy activities for the Los Angeles region of the American Jewish Committee; spearheading legislation as General Counsel and Senior Policy Advisor to Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis; and initiating systemic reforms as Legal Director of Texas Appleseed and consulting attorney to the Innocence Project. Dershowitz also has taught legislation and statutory interpretation at the University of Houston Law Center, and has been a frequent speaker on indigent defense reform and other criminal law policy issues. Earlier, she was a litigator at the flagship Houston office of Fulbright & Jaworski LLP. Before becoming a lawyer, Dershowitz was a journalist in New York. She received her J.D. with honors from Brooklyn Law School and her B.A. from Oberlin College.
