Alan Melamed, Melamed Commmunications

Alan MelamedAlan’s passion for politics started early on, spurring his involvement in causes he cared about as an undergraduate student at The Ohio State University and later while attending Case Western Reserve School of Law. Throughout his 20-year legal career, Alan stayed active in the political arena, volunteering his time and expertise to numerous local and statewide campaigns and serving for 12 years on Shaker Heights City Council.

In 1999, Alan founded Melamed Communications to advocate on behalf of candidates, clients and issues he believes in. His strengths in leadership, strategy and media relations have elevated Melamed Communications to one of Ohio’s highest-regarded advocacy and political consulting firms.

Alan is particularly energized and gratified by initiatives for which Melamed Communications creates broad-based bipartisan coalitions. In 2004, he spearheaded a campaign to oppose Ohio’s Defense of Marriage Act that included gaining support from the Republican Governor and Attorney General, both Republican US Senators, the Democratic Party, all major state newspapers, and corporations such as Proctor and Gamble and The Limited. No other state campaign achieved even close to the bipartisan support of the Ohio effort. More recently, the firm has focused on coalescing support for alternative energy policy and health and human service and economic issues in addition to its ongoing work on behalf of candidates.

Alan serves on the National Executive Council of the American Jewish Committee’s Board of Governors and currently chairs the Marketing and Strategic Communications committee. He is a member of the American Association of Political Consultants and a graduate of the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2003. Outside of work, Alan spends time on the golf course, skiing, gardening, and planning the next trip to Italy with his wife.
